Gen. Eleazar assured that the PNP was “fully prepared” for President Duterte’s last SONA.
On Friday, PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar assured that the Philippine National Police was “fully prepared” for President Rodrigo Duterte’s last State of the Nation Address (SONA).
According to Eleazar, they have already finished the security preparations and deployment plans for President Duterte’s SONA on July 26, 2021.
Eleazar also said that some 15,000 police officers — mostly from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) — will be deployed in order to secure the Chief Executive’s public address.
Those police officers will be augmented by 3,300 force multipliers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
According to Eleazar, there’s no monitored security threat relative to the upcoming event but he said that all police personnel will be ready to respond to any eventuality.
Eleazar also said the cops who will be deployed on the field will be equipped with body-worn cameras in order to help them monitor the crowd.

Manila Bulletin reported that different groups were set to conduct street protests dubbed as “wakaSONA” in different parts of Metro Manila starting this weekend until Monday in order to air their grievances against the current administration.
Among the participating groups were the following: Akbayan Partylist; KARAPATAN; SIKAD; In Defense of Human Rights and Dignity Movement; Kadamay; and Green Thumb Coalition among others.
Eleazar encouraged the groups planning to stage mass actions to virtually conduct their activities in order to avoid the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), especially since there’s already a confirmed local transmission of the more transmissible Delta COVID-19 variant.
