Miss Universe previously held its 69th edition at Florida in the United States last May after the said pageant was postponed in 2020 because of coronavirus pandemic. This will be the third time that two Miss Universe pageants will be held in the same year as Miss Universe held two competitions in 2015 and in 2017.
Meanwhile, the Philippines had produced four Miss Universe winners in total — including Gloria Diaz in 1969. Also, the country had been on an 11-year streak of its representatives placing in the semifinals of the pageant, starting with Venus Raj last 2010.
Rabiya Mateo, the country’s 2020 delegate, finished in the top 21. Her successor, who will be crowned on September 25, will compete in the international pageant in Israel.
