Roque-Robredo Debate: Roque challenged VP Robredo to a debate on the West Philippine Sea issue.
ROQUE-ROBREDO DEBATE — Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque had challenged Vice President Leni Robredo to a debate on the West Philippine Sea issue.
This, as Robredo also supposedly claimed that the Philippines lost part of its territory to China under the Duterte administration
Roque reiterated in his regular press briefing on Monday that a debate on the West Philippine Sea issue was important.
He also doubted if Retired Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio would want to debate a mere lawyer like him, saying that Robredo should face him instead.
“Kung talagang ayaw ni Associate Justice sa ordinaryong abogado gaya ko dahil siya ay retiradong mahistrado ng Supreme Court, tayo po, magdebate tayo. Kung gusto niya po, kasi isa pa rin siyang maingay… Si VP Leni, wala rin pong tigil sa pagpupula kay Presidente pagdating sa West Philippine Sea,” Roque said.

According to him, someone from the opposition had to step up to the plate to talk about whether or not the President’s foreign policy surrendered the country’s territory to China.
Roque added that there’s nothing wrong with him having a debate with the Vice President since they’re “dormmates” and the debate can take place at the Kalayaan Residence Hall in the University of the Philippines (UP).
Roque’s statement came after Vice President Robredo said that it would have been a good public discourse to see the debate between President Rodrigo Duterte and Carpio on the issue because a lot of Filipinos didn’t understand it.
To recall, President Duterte had challenged Carpio to a debate on the West Philippine Sea issue but backed out following the advice of his Cabinet. The President, instead, delegated Roque to face Carpio.
