China would donate 400,000 more COVID-19 vaccine doses to the Philippines, according to President Duterte.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday said that China would donate 400,000 more COVID-19 vaccine doses to the Philippines.
However, President Duterte didn’t mention which brand of COVID-19 vaccine China would donate.
During the inauguration of two new school buildings in Valenzuela City, President Duterte revealed that China would give another 400,000 COVID-19 vaccines to the Philippines, “making their donation to this country one million”.
Last Sunday, the Philippines received 600,000 Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine doses, which was the first to be rolled out in the Philippines.
President Duterte had always been vocal over his preference for China-made COVID-19 vaccines, saying that they’re as good as those produced by European and American pharmaceutical companies.
The President reiterated that he preferred Sinopharm from China as he’s not fond of the products of Westerners.
“Others might prefer other vaccine brands. The doctors are very discriminating, they are waiting for Pfizer. Ang akin is Sinopharm, China. Hindi ako masyado sa mga produkto ng puti,” President Duterte said.\

On Thursday night, the Philippines received more than 480,000 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses under the World Health Organization-led COVAX facility.
Earlier, Malacañang said that President Duterte was awaiting Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Sinopharm.
However, FDA Director-General Eric Domingo on Wednesday said that the Food and Drug Administration was yet to start its evaluation of China’s Sinopharm’s application for EUA of its COVID-19 vaccine.
[UPDATE] Philippine News Agency reported that Sinovac was the brand of COVID-19 vaccine China would donate.
“Duterte did not give further details about the additional 400,000 CoronaVac vaccine doses to be donated by Beijing,” Philippine News Agency reported.
