Erineo “Ayong” Maliksi, the former governor of Cavite passed away at the age of 82.
Imus Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi announced his passing through a post on the social networking site, Facebook on Wednesday.
“Ang aming pamilya ay lubos na nagdadalamhati sa pagpanaw ng aking ama, Erineo ‘Ayong’ S. Maliksi,” he said.
“Higit sa pagiging isang serbisyo-publiko, ikaw ay naging isang mapagmahal at mapagkalingang ama sa amin. Maraming salamat sa iyong pagmamahal at sa mga aral na patuloy naming babaunin,” the younger he added.
However, the son of the former governor did not mention the exact date of his death nor his father’s cause of death.
It was in 1980 when Ayong Maliksi started his political career. He served as vice mayor of Imus, Cavite at the time. Then, in 1988 he was elected as the mayor and served until 1998.
From the year 2001 to 2010, he served as the governor of Cavite and also as a member of the House of Representatives from 1998 to 2001, and from 2010 to 2013.
Under the administration of former president Benigno Aquino III, he served as the chairman of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office from 2015 to 2016.
