Officials of the Manila Cathedral said that Pope Francis has appointed a drug war critic as the new “Apostolic Administrator” of the Manila Archdiocese.
This, after Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, the head of the Manila archdiocese, left for Rome. Tagle will serve as a prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, while Bishop Broderick Pabillo will now serve as an “Apostolic Administrator” of the Manila archdiocese.
Previously, Pabillo rejected the invitation of the national police for priests to join the anti-drug operations in 2017. He said that it was only “propaganda”.
In the same year, Pabillo told the public not to accept President Rodrigo Duterte’s call to “kill” Abu Sayyaf bandits in exchange for a bounty and immunity from any criminal liability.
