Radio Program Host Under Fire Over R*pe Joke During Live Broadcast
JEAN PAUL GENEROSO – The radio program host faced criticism after making a r*pe-related joke during a live broadcast of the radio show “11MBPS” on K5 News FM Bacolod.
The issue began while he was discussing a report about a father who allegedly abused his minor daughter in a public place. Many listeners and online users found his remark offensive and inappropriate, especially because it involved a sensitive topic related to abuse and sexual violence.
Following the backlash, Generoso released a public apology through the official Facebook page of the radio station. In his statement, he admitted that his comment was insensitive, irresponsible, and completely unacceptable.
He clarified that he never intended to disrespect or make fun of victims of abuse and sexual violence, but he acknowledged that his words were wrong and should never have been said on public radio. He took full responsibility for his actions and admitted that there was no excuse for his poor judgment.
The broadcaster also emphasized that r*pe is a serious and horrifying crime that leaves deep emotional trauma on victims and their families. He apologized to women, survivors of abuse and sexual violence, the public, and city officials who were offended by his remarks. He added that the incident served as an important reminder of the responsibility journalists and broadcasters have when using their platforms and speaking to the public.
Generoso also thanked the people who criticized him and expressed disappointment over his statement, saying that their reactions helped him reflect on his mistake. He promised to learn from the incident and to be more careful with his words moving forward. Former ABS-CBN reporter Jacque Manabat was among those who called out his remarks.
