Wife Who Exposed Husband’s Affair Ordered by Court to Apologize
CHINA — A woman has been ordered by the court to publicly apologize to her husband after revealing his affair online, attracting widespread attention.
The couple had been married for over ten years and have a daughter, but the wife discovered that her husband had been involved in a five-year relationship with a married coworker at a coal mine. Reports said the husband allegedly used their shared property to buy jewelry, makeup, and expensive clothes for his mistress, which fueled the wife’s anger and frustration.
Upset and emotional, the wife posted about the affair on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, sharing details about her husband’s secret relationship, including his workplace, and mocking him with sharp and sarcastic words. Her posts quickly gained attention, but the husband filed a defamation case against her. The court ruled that personal wrongdoings, like cheating, do not justify damaging someone else’s reputation. The wife was ordered to post public apologies for fifteen consecutive days, with each video requiring court approval before being shared.

Starting January 12, she began posting daily apology videos. However, instead of a straightforward apology, she used irony and sarcasm, which quickly drew public attention and went viral. She included evidence in her posts, such as chat messages, receipts, and even photos of injuries the husband allegedly sustained from his mistress’s spouse. She also revealed her own injuries, which she said were the result of domestic violence at home.

The unusual approach to apologizing made the videos go viral, gaining millions of views, thousands of likes, and more than 350,000 new followers within just a few days. Many viewers expressed support for her boldness. Despite the viral attention, it remains unclear whether the couple has finalized a divorce following the case.
