Civic Society Leaders File Plunder Charges vs. VP Sara Duterte over Confidential Funds Issue
SARA DUTERTE – Civic Society Leaders filed multiple complaints including plunder charges against the Vice President before the Office of the Ombudsman.
The impeachment complaint filed against Vice Pres. Duterte was ruled “unconstitutional” by the Supreme Court. After the decision of the high court was out, the Senate archived the impeachment rap against the Vice President with a 19-4 voting.

The Supreme Court stated in its decision that the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte did not abide the one year ban. A fresh impeachment rap may only be filed against her starting February 6, 2026. The court’s decision earned different reactions among the Filipinos as well as law experts.

In the Senate, 19 senators agreed to the motion to archive the impeachment complaint against the Vice President. Only four (4) of the lawmakers in the upper chamber opposed it.

Recently, amid the reports that a fresh impeachment complaint may be filed against the Vice President once the ban is lifted, former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV claimed that plunder charges might be filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte this week. According to him, it is over the confidential funds issue.

Vice Pres. Duterte remains questioned over the alleged misuse of the P625-million confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) under her lead. Recently, based on a post of News5 on social media, several civil society leaders filed multiple complaints against the Vice President including plunder charges before the Office of the Ombudsman.
The complaints were not only against Duterte but as well 15 officials of the OVP and DepEd over the confidential funds issue. Based on the post, the following were among the proponents of the complaints:

Duterte’s camp has yet to issue a statement. Despite her previous claim that she is ready to be the president if Pres. Bongbong Marcos resigns from the position, lawyer Jimmy Bondoc claimed that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte wants Marcos Jr. to finish his term so the Filipinos will realize the last Marcos mistake.
