Sara Duterte: Fresh Impeachment Complaint vs. VP Eyed to be Filed after Ban

Group Prepares To Refile Impeachment Complaint vs. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte after February 5

SARA DUTERTE – The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) confirmed that they are preparing to file an impeachment complaint against the Vice President once the ban is lifted.

Several impeachment complaints were filed against the Vice President before the House of Representatives. The complainants cited the alleged misuse of the P625 million confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) under Duterte’s lead.

The impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte reached the Supreme Court which ruled it as “unconstitutional”. The high court cited the one-year ban in its ruling. The decision of the court gained different reactions from the people as well as some government officials and law experts.

Then, the impeachment complaint has already reached the Senate. The chamber earned a lot of criticisms over the alleged “delay” in the proceedings of the issue under the lead of then-Senate President Chiz Escudero. Following the Supreme Court ruling, the Senate voted to archive the impeachment case against Duterte with a 19-4 voting.

Amid the archiving of the decision, Senate Pres. Tito Sotto and Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson were determined to revive the impeachment complaint once the SC reverses its ruling. According to the high court, impeachment complaints may only be filed again versus the Vice President on February 6 onwards.

Recently, a group, militant coalition Bagong Alyansang Makabayan or BAYAN confirmed that they are preparing a fresh impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, BAYAN chairperson Teddy Casiño said what happened then was supposedly incomplete.

“Isang pinaghahandaan ’yung pagtatapos ng one-year ban sa February. Most likely magfa-file po tayo ng impeachment ulit. Kasi bitin ’yung nangyari, hindi natuloy sa trial,” Casiño said.

Based on the report, the BAYAN Chairperson further claimed that the grounds on the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte may expand as other groups allegedly have several grounds. With regards to them, they only have one (1) ground as they considered the alleged strongest ground.

However, Teddy Casiño also admitted that they still have to study more about refiling an impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. He claimed that the Supreme Court allegedly added more conditions after it has ruled the previous complaint as “unconstitutional”.

“Pinag-aaralan kasi namin ano ‘yung naging implications nitong Supreme Court ruling… Maraming dinagdag na mga conditions ang Supreme Court. Medyo mas mahirap na ngayong mag-file ng impeachment. So ’yun ang mga pinag-aaralan. Of course, the intention is there,” the BAYAN chairperson said.

Previously, amid the accusation that he is allegedly behind the impeachment moves against the Vice President, Pres. Bongbong Marcos claimed he himself might be impeached if he will order his allies over the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
