Sam Verzosa Opens Up on Failed Mayoral Bid — and How It Saved Him from Political Controversy
SAM VERZOSA -Losing the Manila mayoral race might have been a major setback for many, but for Sam Verzosa, it turned out to be a “blessing” that redirected his path toward greater success.
TV personality and businessman Sam Verzosa reflected on his unsuccessful run for the mayoralty of Manila City, calling it a “blessing” in disguise. According to Verzosa, public trust in politicians has significantly declined amid ongoing corruption controversies involving flood control projects.
Earlier this year, Verzosa ran for Manila City’s top post, but lost to Isko Moreno. Speaking during the 110th anniversary celebration of Maserati on Sunday, the Maserati Philippines president shared his thoughts on how his loss may have saved him from political controversies.

“Alam mo naman kapag politician ngayon, medyo may konting resentment ang tao. They don’t want to be associated with them, kahit magpa-picture. Ang daming issues, ang daming bashing,” Verzosa said.
He also recounted how many people told him that losing might have been for the best. “Sabi nila, baka inilayo raw ako. Iniba yung path ko. Napakadami pong nagsabi sa akin na, ‘Wow, Sam, parang blessing yan na kahit papaano, kahit hindi ka nanalo, hindi ka inilagay sa mga nangyayari ngayong controversies’,” he added.
Despite the political setback, Verzosa clarified that he remains unbothered by corruption rumors and emphasized that his success is built on legitimate business ventures. “I have receipts proving I amassed my wealth long before I entered politics,” he noted.
Having served previously as a congressman, Verzosa is now turning his full attention back to business. One of his latest achievements includes securing two of the limited-edition Maserati GranTurismo Folgore models for the Philippine market — the Blu Inchiostro GT110 and the Rame Folgore GT110, with only 55 units of each produced globally.
“We’re so lucky we were able to get two because we’re one of the top sales region in the whole world. Actually, the Philippines is one of the top sa sales sa mga sports car. These cars are handcrafted and designed in Modena, Italy, so konti lang talaga siya,” Verzosa shared proudly.

He further highlighted Maserati’s latest milestone: “We’ve launched our newest masterpiece from Maserati for our 110th anniversary. It is fully electric.”
For Verzosa, what seemed like a political loss has now paved the way for greater business victories — proving that sometimes, redirection is the real reward.
