Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Current Philippine Government
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that the Philippine government now is allegedly ‘unstable’ following the Senate and House of Representatives’ changes in their leaderships.
The flood control mess in the Philippines dragged the names of several members of the Senate and the House of Representatives. Amid the issue, change of leaderships took place in both chambers. Former Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero was replaced by former Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto in the Senate presidency.

Then-Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero earned criticisms after admitting that he received a P30-million campaign donation in 2022 from one of the contractors mentioned by Pres. Bongbong Marcos in a press conference. The Chief Executive claimed that 15 contractors got around P100 billion from the total P545-billion spend by the country on flood control projects since his term began until May 2025.

The contractor donor of Sen. Chiz Escudero claimed that the P30-million campaign donation came from his own pocket. The then-Senate President also claimed that they are long-time friends and both of them hailed from Sorsogon. According to him, his publicized link to the contractor is allegedly part of a “demolition job” to remove him from his post so the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte can push through.
In the House of Representatives, former House Speaker and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez resigned from the top post. Romualdez is one of the government officials named by controversial contractors Pacifico and Sarah Discaya who allegedly receive kickback from flood control projects.

Then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez junked the claim of the Discayas. According to him, he is “self-made” and he does not need and will not allow himself to be corrupted by money that does not belong to him. During a House flood probe, Mr. Pacifico Discaya claimed that he never had a direct transaction with the Speaker.
While there is a change of leadership in the House from presidential cousin and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez to Isabela Rep. Faustino “Bojie” Dy, based on a report on Inquirer, there is status quo for the House committees. Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte spoke on the current Philippine government following the shakeups in the Senate and the House of Representative.

According to Vice Pres. Duterte, the Philippine government now is allegedly unstable because there is no vision nor plan. She claimed that the officials are supposedly after politics and making sure that they have money in their pockets. She also stressed that the government allegedly focuses on the next elections as well.
“Magulo siya kasi unang-una walang vision, walang direction, walang plano. Nakikita mo puro sila politika at paninigurado na may pera sa bulsa at ‘yung election nila sa susunod na darating na election. Ganoon ang makikita mo na ginagawa ng gobyerno,” Duterte said.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that the change of leadership in the House of Representatives from presidential cousin and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez to Isabela Rep. Bojie Dy is allegedly a move so the people can say that they did something. However, according to her, they are still the same people in the group.
“’Yung pagpapalit nila ng Speaker d’yan ay para lang ‘yan masabi ng mga tao na meron silang ginawa sa House of Representatives sa reklamo at sa galit ng mga tao. Pero ang totoo niyan ay sila lang din ‘yan. Grupo lang din ‘yan ni Martin Romualdez, ni Sandro Marcos, and of course, siyempre, papunta na rin ‘yan kay BBM,” the Vice President said.
Previously, the Vice President’s brother, Davao 1st District Congressman Paolo Duterte, claimed that Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez being replaced with Isabel Rep. Bojie Dy as the House Speaker is allegedly “just another cover-up move”.
