The Vice President also claimed that while kids as young as three or four years old in other countries already know how to read, in the Philippines, there are high school students who still do not know how to read. Her criticism came after serving as the chief of the Department of Education for two (2) years.

Aside from criticizing the PH education. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also lamented the allegedly “difficult” process in asking for government assistance in the Philippines. Based on a report on PhilStar, the Vice President stressed that the country’s education system is “truly behind” compared to the education system in other more developed countries. The remarks of the Vice President earned different reactions from the people including Malacañang.

Malacañang Claire Castro

Following her criticisms against the PH education, Malacañang called the stint of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte as DepEd secretary as “a complete failure”. According to Palace press officer undersecretary Claire Castro, the Vice President should have solved the things that she is now complaining against the education department when she was the DepEd chief.

Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte reacted to the claim of the Malacañang press official calling her stint as the DepEd secretary as “a complete failure”. According to the Vice President, she does not understand where the claim is coming from as Pres. Bongbong Marcos allegedly tried to ask her to stay as the DepEd chief.

“He tried to ask me to stay, tapos sabi ko, ayoko na. And then ang sunod niyang ginawa, in-offeran niya ako, ‘May gusto ka ba na posisyon?’ Sabi ko, wala akong gustong posisyon,” Duterte claimed.

According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, Pres. Bongbong Marcos allegedly asked her if she could help in the 2025 Midterm Senatorial Elections. She further claimed that she did not commit to the alleged request of the President as she has no plans in the upcoming midterm polls.

“Tapos ang sunod niyang sinabi sa akin, ‘Pwede ka bang tumulong sa midterm elections para sa mga senators?… Gumanon siya. Sabi ko, pag-iisipan ko pero wala pa akong plano para sa 2025 midterm elections ng senators,” she said.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos seemingly wanted her to reconsider her decision to resign from being the DepEd secretary. According to her, his moves allegedly showed that he needs her work.

“Hindi ‘yun actions ng taong tumitingin as failure ako. Action ‘yun ng taong tumitingin na kailangan niya ‘yung trabaho ko. So, hindi ko alam saan nangagaling ‘yung sinasabi nilang failure ako sa Department of Education Secretary,” the Vice President said.

Amid the “complete failure” remarks of the Palace, Malacañang claimed that DepEd Sec. Sonny Angara cleans the mess allegedly left behind by Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
