Sen. Imee Marcos Wants To Visit Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte Inside the ICC Detention Facility
RODRIGO DUTERTE – The former President believes that the friendship of Senator Imee Marcos with his daughter, VP Sara, is “sincere”.
Former Pres. Duterte remains under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for more than 100 days now. The arrest and the transfer of the custody of the former President have divided the Filipino people most especially the once-solid BBM-Sara supporters.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos was heavily-blamed over the arrest and the transfer of custody of former Pres. Duterte. Malacañang defended the President saying that the government had to do its job. Marcos Jr. and the Palace also stressed that the government only acted on the arrest in lieu of its commitment with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).

Amid the controversial arrest and the transfer of custody of Duterte to the ICC, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte and Sen. Imee Marcos share a common pursuit of bringing home former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to the Philippines. The Vice President told the Senator multiple times that she will be the one to bring her father home.

Vice Pres. Duterte endorsed Sen. Marcos in the 2025 senatorial race. After the elections, the Vice President and the Senator flew to The Hague. The Senator wanted to visit former Pres Rodrigo Duterte but the ICC did not allow her.

Currently, Sen. Imee Marcos is back in The Hague. She attempted to visit former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte again. Through his ICC legal team, she submitted an official request to the ICC to be allowed to visit the former President inside the detention facility.
Based on a report on PhilStar, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte told former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte that Sen. Imee Marcos wants to visit him to talk to him. According to her, her father asked what the Senator wants to say to him. She also shared that the former President believes in the sincerity of their ties.
“I said, ‘Maybe she wants to talk to you.’ (He said) ‘Both of you say the same thing, that it’s all politics.’ And then he said, ‘I believe that she is sincere with her friendship with you as she can choose not to be friends with you, but she wants to be friends with you,’” Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said.
During her previous visit to The Hague, Sen. Imee Marcos met with the lawyer of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Malacañang claimed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos is not part of the alleged deal between Vice Pres. Sara Duterte and the Senator to bring the former Chief Executive home.
