Sen. Imee Marcos Makes 2nd Attempt To Visit Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte

IMEE MARCOS – The Senator is back in The Hague, Netherlands again to ask the International Criminal Court (ICC) for permission to visit former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Amid the issues surrounding the controversial arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, Sen. Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte remain friends. The presidential Sister sided with the Duterte family as she claimed that she cannot accept what was done to the former Chief Executive.

Vice Pres. Duterte campaigned for Sen. Marcos who made it to the Senate Magic 12 in the 2025 Midterm Elections. Following the arrest of the former President, she left the senatorial slate of the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago backed by Pres. Bongbong Marcos.

In her proclamation speech, Sen. Imee Marcos mentioned former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte but not Pres. Bongbong Marcos. After the elections, she flew to The Hague with the Vice President. She attempted to visit former Pres. Duterte but the ICC did not grant her the permission.

Sen. Imee Marcos also met with the lawyer of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. According to her, they will the former Chief Executive home. Recently, several allies of the former President in the Senate also filed resolutions calling for a house arrest for him. They cited his old age, health conditions, and social isolation.

Recently, Sen. Imee Marcos returned to The Hague, Netherlands for another attempt to visit former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Based on a report on PhilStar, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte confirmed that the presidential sister, through the lawyer of her father, has submitted a formal request to the ICC to be allowed to visit the former Chief Executive.

“When I talked with (former) president Duterte inside, I mentioned to him that Sen. Imee is here and she requested again to the ICC through the lawyer if she can enter there,” the Vice President said.

Based on the report, while Sen. Imee Marcos supports the call for the interim release bid of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to be granted, she recognized that the ICC has its own process. She reiterated her claim that what happened to former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is allegedly against the Philippine law.

Previously, during an event in Malaysia, Sen. Robin Padilla claimed that he will be the campaign manager of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte and Sen. Imee Marcos in 2028.
