After Naga Mayor Leni Robredo Announced Scrapping of Confidential Funds, Capas Mayor Decides To Do the Same
Capas Mayor Roseller “Boots” Rodriguez in the province of Tarlac drew inspiration from Naga Mayor Leni Robredo in giving up the P8 million confidential funds of his office.
Former Vice President Leni Robredo won as mayor of Naga City in the 2025 Midterm Elections. The post was previously held by her late husband, former Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, for several years before he was appointed in the DILG.

Robredo has always been vocal about her heart being close to the local government. In 2016, she answered to the call to run for vice president and won the race. However, her 2022 presidential run was not victorious in the results but bore a movement that continues until now.

The former Vice President has always been an advocate of eradicating corruption in the government through transparency. Countless Filipinos were saddened by the loss of Robredo in the 2022 presidential race but the former Vice President accepted the results fully.
Recently, after taking her oath, former Vice President and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo announced that she will remove Confidential Funds in the budget of the city. Her decision is in the pursuit to ensure that the local government is efficient.
Robredo also said that only employees who are truly dedicated to doing their job will be rewarded. She stressed that the LGU needs to sacrifice in attaining its goals.
“We will purge corruption here in Naga. There will be no inflated prices, SOP, kickback or acceptance of gifts in exchange of favors,” the Naga City Mayor said.
The recent action of former Vice President and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo sparked inspiration among many people including Capas Mayor Roseller “Boots” Rodriguez. Based on a report on Inquirer, the mayor of a town in the province of Tarlac has also decided to remove Confidential Funds in the budget of his office.

“I saw former Vice President Leni in the news, scrapping her confidential fund as Naga City mayor. I told myself, ‘Pwede palang alisin ang confidential fund, akala ko fixed ito at hindi pwedeng i-scrap. Pwede pala,” the Capas Mayor said.
Based on the report, it is the second term of Capas Mayor Boots Rodriguez as mayor. Speaking before the officials of the town, the employees of the municipality, and the village chiefs, he announced the scrapping of P8 million Confidential Funds in the budget of the town for 2026. It drew applause from the crowd.
On the previous Confidential Funds in the budget of the town, Rodriguez claimed that the budget was spent on supporting police efforts and initiatives against crimes — specifically against illegal drugs.
It is no secret to the public that the term “Confidential Funds” hooked national attention with the alleged misuse of the Confidential Funds of the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education. Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte vowed to answer the Confidential Funds issue “publicly” if her impeachment trial won’t push through.
