5 Years from Now, Grades and Degrees Won’t Matter – Life Coach’s Reminder

Life Coach Gives a Powerful Reminder to Graduates

ALEC CUENCA – A viral Facebook post by a well-known life coach, keynote speaker, podcast host, and content creator has touched the hearts of many, especially recent college graduates.

In his post, Cuenca shared a powerful reminder: “5 years from now… Your GWA won’t matter. 5 years from now… Your degree won’t matter. 5 years from now… No one will ask: ‘Uy, regular ka ba o irreg nung college?’ ‘Ilang beses ka nag-retake ng subject?’ ‘Latin honor ka ba?’ It. Won’t. Matter.”

His message comes at a time when many students feel intense pressure to finish college “on time” and with academic honors. Cuenca challenges this mindset, pointing out that society often measures a person’s worth through grades and titles—but these shouldn’t define one’s success.

“Graduation is not the END… It’s the BEGINNING,” Cuenca emphasized. He explained that life after school no longer follows a structured syllabus. Instead, people begin writing their own paths, making their own choices, and learning from real-life experiences. “Design your own life. Study your own soul,” he advised.

Cuenca also shared his personal story—how he struggled with failed subjects every semester in college, yet eventually built an 8-figure business from scratch. His experience serves as proof that success isn’t limited to academic performance or a diploma.

To young people, his message is clear: stop pressuring yourself to have everything figured out. “The real flex isn’t graduating ‘on time’,” Cuenca said. “The real flex is building a life that feels right, on your time.”

His words resonated just as the University of the Philippines Diliman celebrated its 2025 graduation. Over 5,000 scholars marched, with 241 named summa cum laude, 1,143 magna cum laude, and 985 cum laude—figures that reflect both accomplishment and the pressure in today’s academic culture. In the end, Cuenca’s message is a reminder to value growth, purpose, and personal fulfillment more than medals, ranks, or deadlines.
