Why Vico Sotto Still Uses an Old Phone
VIC SOTTO – The TV host and comedian shared his thoughts about his son, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, and the now-viral attention surrounding his old cellphone.
In a June 3, 2025 interview, Vic said Vico has no plans to replace his outdated phone. He joked that his son would only buy a new one if it explodes. Vic added that Vico stands firmly by his principles—and for that, he’s extremely proud of him.
Mayor Vico’s old phone became a trending topic online after he posted some blurry selfies from a public event on April 15, 2025. Many netizens found the low-quality photos amusing. Some jokingly offered him discounts and even loan options just so he could upgrade. Others shared selfie tips or commented that the old phone is proof he’s not corrupt—since he clearly doesn’t spend much on gadgets.
A tech company also joined in on the fun. Following Vico’s re-election, it posted a playful message inviting him to claim a free iPhone 16 Pro Max in exchange for his old Oppo phone. Though obviously satirical, the post reminded many people of Republic Act 6713, which prohibits public officials from accepting gifts or favors from private entities.
According to reports, Vico’s current phone is a basic model provided by the telecommunications company handling his official line. Despite the jokes and offers, the mayor seems perfectly content using it. For many, his simple choice reflects his grounded nature and sincere approach to public service.
While Vico’s phone may not be high-end, his values—such as humility, integrity, and dedication to honest leadership—matter far more. And for Vic Sotto, having a son who lives by those values is something to be truly proud of.
