Former Sen. Leila de Lima Claims SP Chiz Escudero Allegedly Violated the PH Constitution
LEILA DE LIMA – The Congresswoman-elect reacted to the statement of Senate President Chiz Escudero over the delay in the impeachment process against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
Countless people were shocked and disappointed after Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero announced the postponement in the impeachment proceedings versus Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Instead of having the reading of the articles of impeachment yesterday, June 2, it was moved to June 11.

According to Escudero, the Senate and the House of Representatives still have a legislative agenda that must be fulfilled before the 19th Congress adjourns on the 14th. The Senate President stressed that the House and the Senate still have to work on the measures in line with the pursuit of the Marcos administration to align the government to the demands of the Filipino people.

Escudero also claimed that the Commission on Appointments still have over 200 presidential appointees to review. Sen. Koko Pimentel said he will have to ask the Senate President on the decision to change the impeachment process schedule. The lawmaker helped draft the impeachment rules.

Through a press conference, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero defended the delay in the impeachment proceedings against VP Sara Duterte. According to the Senate Chief, no side is losing over the decision as whether the reading of the articles will be scheduled on June 2 or June 11, the camp of Duterte will be given 10 days to respond and it may not make it to the 19th Congress.
Escudero also stressed that the farthest that the Senate can do is the issuance of the summons before the 19th Congress adjourns. He also recognized that the decision of the 19th Congress is not binding with the incoming 20th Congress. According to him, after it, it is up to the Congress.
Former senator Leila de Lima who is the congresswoman-elect of the ML party-list agreed to being part of the prosecution team on the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Recently, the former Senator reacted to the statement of Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero on the delay of the impeachment process against the Vice President.

Based on a report on PhilStar, former Sen. Leila de Lima admitted that she expected more from the pronouncements of Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero. According to the Congresswoman-elect, she expected that Escudero will put an end to doubts on whether or not there would be a trial.
“I was expecting more from the statements, from the pronouncements of the Senate president. He could have been more categorical,” she said.
Congresswoman-elect Leila de Lima claimed that the delay on the impeachment trial against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is allegedly a violation against the Philippine Constitution. Based on the report, it is four (4) months now since the Vice President was impeached by the House of Representatives.
“For me, the impeachment trial at this stage, the convening of the impeachment court and also the proceeding with the impeachment trial is not optional,” the former Senator said.
