How Faith and Hustle Helped Vangie Carr Succeed
Vangie Carr, 42, is a shining example of how determination, smart planning, and faith can transform a person’s life.
From humble beginnings in Samar, where she was the seventh of eight siblings raised in a modest family, Vangie’s journey to success was not easy. Her parents, though living a simple life, had an entrepreneurial spirit that deeply influenced her. She saw her father selling shrimp to Chinese buyers and learned early on the value of hard work and business.
In 2003, after marrying her husband Carl, they entered the poultry business, initially selling small amounts of chicken and pork in Samar. The income was modest but promising enough for them to keep learning the ropes. In 2008, they moved to General Trias, Cavite, aiming to grow their poultry business. They carefully studied their new market, noting strong demand for pork and chicken and how loyal customers could build a steady income.

Starting from a small table under an umbrella, they sold limited stock daily. Though they often faced challenges such as leftover goods and customers delaying payments, Vangie creatively repurposed unsold meat into products like meatballs to minimize losses. By 2010, their hard work paid off when they found a larger location and a supplier offering discounted “reject” chicken parts, allowing them to lower prices and attract more customers.

Despite competition and even theft by employees, Vangie and Carl persisted. They decided to run the business themselves, refusing to give up. Vangie recalls bringing her baby to the store and making the shop their home at night so the family could stay together. Her strong belief that quitting was not an option kept her going through tough times.

Their business eventually expanded to include lechon (roast pig), which became very popular with local companies and events. What began as a tiny stall has grown into “Carl & Vangie’s Lechon/Meatshop,” a trusted name in their community.
By 2018, the couple had built their dream house, invested in multiple properties and vehicles, and started enjoying family trips. Today, they earn an impressive eight-digit monthly income from their three branches in Cavite.
