Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Advice To Brother Davao Cong. Paolo Duterte
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President revealed that she has asked her brother, Davao First District Congressman Paolo Duterte, if he wants to run for House Speaker.
After the Duterte family meeting that had the siblings complete for an overnight to talk about their thanksgiving, the Vice President and the Davao City Congressman were spotted attending a mass together. They even joined the offering. Several members of the popular political clan won in the 2025 Midterm Elections.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte won Davao Mayor while his youngest son, outgoing Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte, won vice mayor. Davao First District Cong. Paolo Duterte was reelected and his two (2) sons also won positions in the local government of Davao.
The Duterte family has once again been on the headlines since the controversial arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The former Chief Executive is currently detained in The Hague, Netherlands under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Prior to the 2025 Elections, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, Cong. Paolo Duterte, and their youngest sibling, Kitty, have taken turns visiting the former President in the ICC detention facility in The Hague. The Vice President also previously claimed that she will return to The Hague for her birthday which is this coming May 31.
Currently, there is a looming impeachment trial against the Vice President. Previously, VP Sara claimed that her lawyers are “more than confident” to win the impeachment trial. Recently, following his reelection in Davao, the Vice President revealed her advice to her older brother, Congressman Pulong.
Based on a report on PhilStar, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte revealed she asked Davao Cong. Paolo Duterte if he wants to run for House Speaker in the lower chamber. According to her, the Davao Congressman gave no response and she thinks he’s probably thinking about the numbers.
“I told Congressman Pulong, I said to him, maybe you want to run for speaker? He didn’t answer … Maybe he’s also thinking about his chances being far-fetched,” she said.
Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte revealed she advised Davao Cong. Paolo Duterte to take the minority leadership if he does not win House Speaker. According to her, her brother has yet to give a response.
“If you don’t win speaker, then take the minority leadership. But he hasn’t given an answer yet. So I guess he’s still thinking about it,” VP Inday Sara said.
Amid the issues, the Palace called for investigation on the past projects of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte as mayor of Davao.
