Rita Avila Calls Out Trump Over Pope-Like Photo
RITA AVILA – The veteran actress expressed strong disapproval of a viral AI-generated image showing U.S. President Donald Trump dressed like the Pope, calling it highly disrespectful and offensive to the Catholic Church.
In a heartfelt post on her Facebook page, Avila criticized the photo, which Trump himself reportedly shared on his Instagram account just days after attending the funeral of Pope Francis. The timing of the post made it even more hurtful, as Catholics around the world were still mourning the loss of the pontiff.
Rita, known for being vocal about her faith and moral values, did not hold back. She called the image “a clear and serious insult to the sanctity of the Pope,” adding that using the likeness of such a sacred figure for political or humorous purposes shows a lack of respect and sensitivity.

“Walang galang si Pres. Trump,” she wrote. “Ininsulto nya ang pagkasagrado ng Papa. Malaking kasalanan ang mambastos ng sagradong tao, gamit o lugar.”
She further reflected on the moral state of society, saying that corruption is not limited to governments or leaders, but is something everyone struggles with in varying forms. “AT ALAM NYO BA na lahat naman tayo ay corrupt?” Avila noted. “Nawawalan tayo ng matinong moralidad sa maraming bagay, maliit o malaki.”
The actress also lamented the toxicity of social media, saying that while freedom of expression is important, it should be used responsibly. “Ang kalayaan para mag-KOMENTO ay may kasama dapat na DISIPLINA,” she emphasized.

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) President, Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, also expressed his disappointment, echoing Avila’s sentiments. “With all due respect to his office and to the American people, we’d like him to know it’s not funny,” he said, pointing out how inappropriate it was to share such content while Catholics worldwide are grieving.
