Vlogger Cop Faces Charges Despite Resignation

Case Against Vlogger Cop Continues After Resignation

RESIGNED PATROLMAN FRANCIS STEVE FONTILLAS – The “vlogger cop” remains under investigation by the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) for his controversial online posts, which include criticism of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and remarks regarding the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Despite submitting his irrevocable resignation from the Philippine National Police (PNP), effective April 10, 2025, NAPOLCOM clarified that this does not exempt him from administrative accountability. According to NAPOLCOM Vice Chairperson and Executive Officer Atty. Rafael Vicente Calinisan, the case against Fontillas will proceed, with a decision expected within the week. Calinisan emphasized that “resignation is not an escape from accountability.” If found guilty, Fontillas could face dismissal from service and permanent disqualification from holding any government position.

Fontillas faces charges of grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer. These stem from several online videos and posts he published while serving as a public official. One of his recent posts involved sharing a video of a Labor Day protest that allegedly showed a clash between anti-riot police and activists. His earlier posts, which criticized the administration’s response to Duterte’s arrest, also attracted wide attention online.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD), where Fontillas was previously assigned, confirmed that his resignation was accepted and approved by NCRPO Chief Police Major General Anthony Aberin. QCPD further noted that Fontillas had exhibited signs of emotional instability as early as 2023.

Now that he is no longer part of the police force, the PNP clarified that any views or statements he expresses as a private citizen do not reflect the organization’s policies or position.

While Fontillas now operates independently, NAPOLCOM asserts that his actions as a police officer remain subject to review. As Calinisan stated, Fontillas was given a fair chance to explain his side—and now, his “day of reckoning” is at hand.
