Lady Netizen Recounts Catcalling Experience on International Women’s Month

A lady netizen shared her catcalling experience in celebration of International Women’s Month.

Recently, Karla Stefan Singson, a Facebook user, hared her experience with catcalling, describing the everyday struggles that women face, as the world celebrates International Women’s Month.

Singson recalled that she was only 15 years old when she first experienced catcalling. While walking near her home, a stranger made an inappropriate comment about her appearance. Since then, similar incidents continued.

Security guards lingered too long while handing her parking tickets, bystanders whistled and called her names, and she even experienced unwanted touches during conferences and business meetings.

Even after getting into relationships, these experiences did not stop. She questioned whether people respected her more now that she was married or if they simply respected the man she was with.

The female netizen emphasized that women face life differently, facing fears and risks that many may not even realize. Walking alone at night comes with the constant fear of being robbed, harmed, or worse.

“Every moment rekindles the same fear. Me looking at younger girls and thinking, buckle up girl, you’re in for a ride. So for this year’s women’s month, let’s think about what women would truly, truly appreciate,” she wrote.

Living alone also means taking extra precautions to feel safe in one’s own home. She pointed out that these fears have nothing to do with a woman’s age or appearance. Women have to be cautious when going on dates, share their locations with friends, and watch each other’s drinks.

They are taught to hold their car keys a certain way when walking alone and to learn self-defense not as a sport but as a necessity. She called on men, fellow women, and society to take action in creating a safer world for all women.
