DOLE Urges Employers: Adopt Flexible Work Setups to Beat the Scorching Heat

DOLE – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is urging employers to consider implementing flexible work arrangements to safeguard employees’ health and productivity amid the intense heat.

As temperatures continue to rise across the country, Labor and Employment Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma has called on employers to implement flexible work arrangements to safeguard employees’ well-being.

Speaking during a job fair at Kafuerte Complex, Laguesma stressed the importance of maintaining safe and healthy work environments, particularly in workplaces where heat exposure could pose health risks. He urged employers to assess their ventilation systems and ensure that employees have access to free drinking water to prevent dehydration.

According to the report, Laguesma highlighted the benefits of flexible work setups, particularly for employees whose physical presence at the workplace is not essential. He noted that work-from-home arrangements should be considered where feasible, provided that business operations remain unaffected.

“As long as the work is not affected, it is okay for employees to work remotely,” Laguesma stated, reinforcing the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) stance on promoting worker welfare without compromising productivity.

The recommendation comes as the country experiences rising temperatures, which pose significant health risks such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke, especially for outdoor and field workers. Laguesma emphasized that companies must take proactive steps to mitigate these risks and ensure employees remain safe and comfortable while performing their duties.
