Davao Mayor Baste Duterte Confident VP Sara Will Get Through Impeachment Issue
BASTE DUTERTE – The Davao City Mayor spoke about the impeachment issue involving his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.
The attention of countless people across the Philippines was hooked by the upcoming impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The House of Representatives approved the impeachment of the Vice President and it is now up to the Senate on when to start the trial.
Four (4) impeachment complaints were filed against Duterte. Two-thirds of the lawmakers in the House approved her impeachment. Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero has released the proposed timetable for the impeachment trial of Duterte and the tentative start is on July 30.
The timetable of the Senate President came amid calls for the Senate to start the trial right away. Senators Koko Pimentel and Risa Hontiveros believe that nothing is stopping the upper chamber from tackling the Articles of Impeachment and acting as an impeachment court.
Previously, Malacañang said that Pres. Bongbong Marcos will be in an “awkward position” to call for a special session over Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial. According to Palace press officer Undersecretary Claire Castro, there are rumors linking the Chief Executive to the impeachment moves, thus, it will allegedly work if it would be the senators that would write to the President to request for a special session.
Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero disregarded the suggestion of the Malacañang Executive. He believes that there is no need for a special session. Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s younger brother, Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte, spoke on the impeachment trial against her.
Davao Mayor Baste Duterte believes that the impeachment issue of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is allegedly just a smokescreen of the Marcos administration to cover the controversy of the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Speaking at his “Basta Dabawenyo” podcast, Mayor Baste who VP Sara Duterte previously said will run for president in 2028 said that the impeachment issue is allegedly just a “panic response” of the current administration. According to him, the admin allegedly has no answers to the questions of the public so they threw an issue to get the attention of the people.
Mayor Baste Duterte is confident that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte will get through the impeachment issues victoriously as she has a strong legal team. Her legal counsels include former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, her father-in-law Lucas Carpio Jr., Sheila Sison, Philip Sigfrid Fortun, Gregorio Narvasa II, and Roberto Batungbacal.
“I see that the Vice President is unbothered… We are ready to fight them. Whatever they are accusing the Vice President, we are ready to face it,” Mayor Baste said.
Amid the claim of Mayor Baste that the Vice President is not affected by the issues against her, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously advised the voters to check on the candidates’ accomplishments and platforms.
