Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Remains Optimistic amid Impeachment Complaints
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President reacted to the looming 3rd impeachment complaint against her that may be filed by a religious group.
Two (2) impeachment complaints have already been filed against Vice Pres. Duterte. The first complaint was endorsed by Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña while the second complaint was endorsed by Makabayan bloc lawmakers.
Recently, a member of the House confirmed that a religious group is “certain” to file the 3rd impeachment complaint versus Vice Pres. Duterte next week. According to ACT Teachers Representative France Castro, they awaited the third impeachment complaint as there might be a technical fault if the two (2) impeachment complaints filed will be transmitted the House Speaker’s office ahead.
Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed she welcome the filing of impeachment complaints against her. The Vice President also stressed that the plan to file an impeachment complaint against her has been said since last year and she welcomes that finally the complaint has been filed.
Aside from the impeachment complaints, the Vice President was also faced with a subpoena from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) over her remarks against Pres. Bongbong Marcos. However, she skipped the hearing for the second time around.
Vice Pres. Duterte stressed that she will not hide or leave the Philippines if an arrest warrant will be issued against her. According to the Vice President, she prefers to be detained in the country so she can see her children.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was asked about the looming third impeachment complaint against her. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Vice President remains to be optimistic amid the impeachment complaints filed against her.
“Pag may impeachment complaint, that would be a way or avenue na maayos kong masagot kung ano man yung accusations,” she said.
According to Vice Pres. Duterte, she sees the impeachment complaints as a way to answer the accusations against her as there are rules of impeachment. The Vice President acknowledged that the other people including the staff members of the OVP may not share the same stand with her over the matter.
“It is an inconvenience, dahil siyempre pag mayroong impeachment complaint, mayroong mga lawyers at mayroong support staff na kailangan i-hire, at kailangan bayaran ang professional fees. But otherwise, sa tingin ko naman, okay ito kasi nakakasagot ng maayos sa accusation,” Duterte said.
Based on the report, the betrayal of public trust is one of the impeachable offenses mentioned in the complaints filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Meanwhile, the Vice President stressed that her legal counsels are now on standby once they received the articles of impeachment.
Amid the issues against her, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has called on the House to probe the Confidential Funds of Marcos’ office. She made the call after the Commission on Audit (COA) revealed that the Office of the President remains the top spender of the confidential and intelligence funds.
