Malacañang Speaks on Impeachment Complaint Vs. VP Sara Duterte
MALACAÑANG – The Palace denied having a hand on the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Currently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is surrounded by several issues and allegations. Some of these were due to the questions regarding the budget utilization of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) while others are due to the remarks of the Vice President.
The National Bureau of Investigation or NBI has filed a subpoena against Vice Pres. Duterte for her remarks against Pres. Bongbong Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez. She was scheduled to appear at the NBI headquarters last Friday but she was not able to make it.
Duterte’s remarks seemingly ignited threats on the lives of the President, his wife, and his House Speaker cousin. It hooked the attention of the authorities. However, the recent happenings are another addition to the previous instances when the Vice President earned the irk of the House members.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte evaded several hearings set by the House of Representatives. She ditched several hearings over the spending of the Confidential Funds of the OVP and DepEd. She also skipped some hearings set for the deliberation of the 2025 budget proposal of her office.
Recently, a group filed an impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. It came despite the pronouncement of Pres. Bongbong Marcos that he is not in favor of in impeachment plan against the Vice President.
Sixteen (16) complainants filed the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Malacañang recently released a statement denying a hand on the impeachment complaint against the Vice President.
“The impeachment complaint filed in the House of Representatives by several private citizens is clearly the complainants’ independent initiative, and its endorsement the prerogative of any Member of the House of Representatives,” Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said.
Based on the report, the impeachment complaint against Duterte was endorsed by Akbayan Party-list Representative Perci Cendaña. According to Malacañang, the filing of the impeachment complaint displayed the individual initiative of the people behind the complaint.
“The Office of the President has nothing to do with it,” Bersamin said.
Aside from Pres. Bongbong Marcos who is not in favor of the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos is also against the impeachment of VP Sara Duterte.
