Sari-Sari Store Owner Shares Challenges with Customers Borrowing Goods But Don’t Always Pay On Time
BAWAL UTANG – A female sari-sari store owner has shared the challenges she faced with ‘Nangungutang’ customers.
Mingkay CB Estaca, a Facebook user, shared her experience dealing with customers who borrow goods but don’t always pay on time. The post garnered various reactions from the internet users.
Running a sari-sari store is not that easy, one of her stories involved a customer who borrowed P18. The payment was delayed for a week, and even after a single follow-up, the customer appeared to have conveniently forgotten about the debt.
Frustrated but hopeful, Estaca decided to message the customer’s wife, who promised to send the payment through her husband.
Another incident involved an older customer, around 50 years old, who also owned a small store. He initially borrowed one peso to pay for a coffee stick. A few days later, he returned, repaid the peso but then borrowed P48 worth of goods.
He assured Mingkay he’d settle the debt once he received money but asked her not to inform her partner, claiming he seemed strict.

For the sari-sari store owner, these small amounts may seem small to others, but as someone who runs a hunble store with slow daily sales, every peso counts. Even small unpaid debts can impact her ability to restock and keep her business afloat.
The lady netizen’s experiences show the struggles sari-sari store owners face when customers take advantage of their goodwill.

After a week pa daw sya magbbayad, pag mapadalhan ng pera. Di ko daw sabihin kay partner strikto kasi ang mukha.
Next time na babalik sya, pra magbayad. Si partner na haharap sa kanya.
I know maliit lng sya na halaga pero sakin na matumal ang daily na kita napakalaking pera na yan, pwede ko na syang maikot ng 3* since nasa mall rin nag wowork partner ko.”
