Woman Falls Victim to Identity Theft in Cadiz City and Learned That She Married to Someone She Didn’t Know
A woman falls victim to identity theft in Cadiz City after learning that she was married to someone she had never met.
A 27-year-old Evelyn Ruelan from Hacienda Cana-an, Brgy. Mabini learned that she fell victim to identity theft in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental. Evelyn, who had been living with her partner, Reylan Escalan, for two years, was preparing for their wedding scheduled for December 2024.
While processing the necessary documents for their marriage, including the Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR) from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Evelyn found out she was already married.
To her surprise, the records showed her as the wife of an Indian national named Jacdev Singh. Their alleged marriage took place on November 16, 2023, in Valenzuela City, Metro Manila.
Evelyn was bothered by how her personal information was stolen. She clarified that she had never lost any identification documents, nor had she traveled to Manila. She also had no history of sharing personal information through online applications.
Her family and partner are equally puzzled about how her identity was used, suspecting that her signature might have been forged.
The situation has caused distress, as Evelyn is seven months pregnant and due to give birth in January 2025. She and her partner had already started preparing for their wedding, saving resources like pigs, charcoal, and firewood for the celebration.
Evelyn plans to file a formal complaint with the PSA to address the identity theft and hopes to uncover the person responsible for this incident. Despite the setback, she remains determined to resolve the issue and proceed with her wedding plans to Reylan.
