Jake Paul Confident of Defeating Mike Tyson
JAKE PAUL – The American boxer and actor is confident that he will defeat Mike Tyson when the two face off in the ring on Friday (US time) in Texas.
Paul, 27, who is more than three decades younger than Tyson, expressed his desire to see a strong performance from the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion, who is fighting professionally for the first time since 2005.
During a press conference, Paul (10-1) said he hoped Tyson would bring his “old, tough” fighting style to the match. He added, “I want the hardest match possible on Friday night, and I want there to be no excuses when I knock him out.” In contrast, Tyson (50-6) appeared calm and gave brief answers, showing little interest in the back-and-forth that Paul clearly wanted. “I’m just ready to fight,” Tyson stated, seeming uninterested in engaging with Paul. Paul, on the other hand, called Tyson’s demeanor “boring.”
Tyson, once known as the “Baddest Man on the Planet” in the late 1980s and early 1990s, had his fight with Paul delayed after suffering from an ulcer flare-up in May. However, when asked how losing to Paul would affect his legacy, Tyson responded firmly, saying, “I’m not going to lose!” He repeated himself loudly when questioned again.
Meanwhile, Paul continued his showmanship, revealing a diamond-spiked ear cover as a playful reference to Tyson’s infamous 1997 fight against Evander Holyfield, where Tyson was disqualified for biting off part of Holyfield’s ear. Paul challenged other fighters who doubted his victory to place bets, claiming the fight would end in a clear result. “Somebody is getting put to sleep,” Paul declared, stressing that the match would be intense and would not last the full 16 minutes.
The much-anticipated match will take place at the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium in Arlington, Texas. It will feature eight two-minute rounds with 14-ounce gloves instead of the usual 10-ounce gloves, and will be streamed live on Netflix.
