Former ALS Learner Now a Police Officer

From ALS Learner to Police Officer

MARK JOENARD BAUTISTA – The former Alternative Learning System (ALS) learner is now a dedicated police officer.

The Department of Education (DepEd) recently shared Mark’s inspiring story to showcase how perseverance, family support, and the ALS program helped him overcome obstacles to achieve his dream.

Mark’s educational journey began with challenges. He was forced to leave high school after being expelled from a private school due to financial issues, which prevented him from obtaining the necessary documents to transfer to a public school. This left him unable to continue his studies. However, an ALS teacher reached out to his mother, offering Mark a chance to complete high school through the ALS program. With his family’s support and strong determination, he graduated from ALS in 2015, which qualified him to pursue higher education.

Mark then enrolled at Passi City College, majoring in criminology, and graduated in 2021. After obtaining his degree, he promptly took the Criminology Board Exam and passed on his first attempt, clearing the way for him to join the Philippine National Police (PNP). Today, Mark serves in Region VI with the Iloilo Province Mobile Force Company, 4th Platoon, committed to providing safety and security in his community.

DepEd proudly shared Mark’s success story to illustrate the impact of ALS in offering second chances to students who face challenges in their education. Mark’s journey demonstrates that, with the right support and a determined attitude, anyone can overcome setbacks and reach their dreams. His role as a police officer not only fulfills his personal goals but also positively impacts the community, contributing to a safer Philippines.

Mark’s story is a powerful example of how hard work, dedication, and support programs like ALS can transform lives, opening doors to new opportunities. His experience underscores that education, regardless of the path taken, is a vital tool for personal growth and change.
