For 5 Libel Cases Filed by Sharon and Kiko, Cristy Fermin Posts Bail
CRISTY FERMIN – The entertainment columnist posted bail amounting to P240,000 in response to five libel cases filed by actress Sharon Cuneta and her husband, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan.
These cases, handled by Judge Andres Bartolome Soriano at Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 148, progressed to court after moving from the fiscal’s office. Fermin, facing an arrest warrant, opted to voluntarily surrender, demonstrating her commitment to legal protocol and respect for due process.
On the day she posted bail, Fermin shared that the process took nearly the entire day. She arrived at the court early in the morning and completed the necessary paperwork by around 2:30 PM. She also recounted an incident involving scammers who approached her during this time, pretending to be National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents offering to assist with her bail procedure in exchange for money. Unfazed, Fermin clarified that she handles her legal matters independently, keeping her official documents on hand to avoid such fraudulent schemes.
Fermin expressed deep appreciation for the Makati City Hall employees, who, she noted, provided her and her legal team with invaluable assistance, expediting the process and offering encouragement. Her attorney, Shirley Tabancura, also received particular praise for guiding her through the legal complexities with professionalism and support. In addition to her legal team, Fermin thanked her supporters and fans for their messages, which she said strengthened her determination during this challenging period.
The columnist’s candid reflections underscore her resilience in dealing with legal hurdles, as well as her reliance on due process and transparency. Her account sheds light on the challenges public figures face in the legal system and the importance of vigilance against potential scams.
As of press time, Sharon Cuneta and her husband, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, have yet to issue a statement regarding Fermin’s decision to post bail for the cases filed against her.
