David Charlton, Founder of David’s Salon, Passes Away
DAVID CHARLTON – The founder and CEO of David’s Salon, has passed away at 69, leaving the Philippine salon industry in deep mourning.
Charlton, a British hairdresser who came to view the Philippines as his second home, became a beloved figure in the local salon community. Known for his compassionate leadership, innovative business practices, and dedication to hairdressing excellence, he left a lasting impact that resonated with both clients and employees. His passing was announced on October 29, 2024, through a heartfelt Facebook post by Davines Philippines, which referred to Charlton as a “pillar” of the industry and noted that his contributions to Filipino hairdressing would be “forever missed.”
His daughter, Laura, confirmed his passing, sharing that his wake would be held at The Chapels of Heritage Park in Taguig City from October 30 to November 2, with a final mass on November 3. Born on July 12, 1955, in Sunderland, England, Charlton first arrived in the Philippines in 1978 to manage the Rever Salon at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Makati City. In 1989, he opened his first salon at New Farmer’s Market in Quezon City, a bold move that eventually led to the establishing of over 200 David’s Salon branches nationwide. His brand became synonymous with high-quality yet affordable hairstyling, setting new standards in the industry.
David’s Salon gained loyal patrons over the years, with Charlton’s influence reaching prominent circles as he served as the official hairdresser for Binibining Pilipinas candidates, including Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach. Beyond his professional reputation, he was cherished by his employees, who affectionately called him “Amo.”
Charlton’s staff admired his skill and dedication, kindness, generosity, and approachable nature. Under his leadership, David’s Salon became a respected and trusted name. Charlton’s legacy as a compassionate leader and visionary ensures his memory will continue to inspire Filipino hairdressers for years to come.
