The exchange took a turn when the doctor questioned if he was “really” a doctor. After he confirmed he was a vet, she reportedly responded that his patients were “just animals” and joked about “swapping patients.”

The doctor commented that she wouldn’t consider him on par with a “real doctor.” The distasteful remark, particularly from a fellow professional, disrespects not only Dela Cruz but also the people around them.

Dela Cruz took to social media to share his experience and address the stereotype that veterinarians are somehow lesser than medical doctors. He points out that veterinary medicine requires deep knowledge across various disciplines, including animal physiology, microbiology, surgery, and immunology, among others.

Vets work with diverse animals such as pets, livestock, and even wildlife, whose health needs are unique. Unlike human patients, animals can’t directly communicate their symptoms, making veterinary diagnoses a blend of science, observation, and experience.

The veterinarian emphasized that animals are not “just animals” but beloved family members or essential sources of food, deserving of professional care. His post encouraged mutual respect among professionals, noting that each field has unique challenges and importance.

He ended with a call for kindness and understanding, suggesting that the world could use more respect across all professions.
