Burglar Enters Home, Completes Chores, and Cooks Dinner

Burglar Breaks in but Leaves House Tidy

FROM BURGLAR TO HOUSEKEEPER – A man burglarized a home in Wales, completed various chores, and cooked dinner before leaving the house.

On July 16, 2024, 36-year-old Damian Wojnilowicz broke into a neighbor’s home in Monmouthshire, Wales. After entering, he discovered laundry left in the dryer and hung it outside to dry. Noticing the empty bird feeder, he filled it with bird feed, then took groceries from a plastic bag and put them in the refrigerator. He also cleaned out the recycling bin, threw away empty wine bottles scattered on the floor, and washed kitchen utensils before neatly arranging them in their containers. When he saw new toothbrushes, he replaced the old ones and mopped the floor as his last chore.

Before leaving, Damian cooked a meal using items from the cupboard, opened a bottle of red wine, and placed sweets in a bowl. He left a note saying, “Don’t worry, be happy, eat up, and scratch.” When the homeowner returned, she immediately noticed the hung laundry and the other tasks he had completed. She questioned a neighbor, who confirmed seeing someone hanging laundry, which terrified her and left her confused about the intruder.

On July 29, Damian entered another house in nearby Newport, which is about a 30-minute drive from Monmouthshire. The male homeowner was alerted through a smartphone app and saw Damian on CCTV. While he had done various chores at the first house, at this location, he bathed in the hot tub, washed his clothes, and consumed food and alcohol from the house. The homeowner called his son-in-law, who found Damian still drinking.

The son-in-law told him to leave, and he complied. Damian was reported and arrested, and during the investigation, his fingerprints matched those found at the first victim’s home. The first victim later expressed her ongoing fear and anxiety, which had forced her to stay with friends and consider moving for safety. Damian faced two counts of burglary, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to 22 months in prison.
