Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Files for Reelection in Pampanga

GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO – The former president has officially submitted her certificate of candidacy (COC) for reelection as the representative of Pampanga’s 2nd District in the 2025 elections.

Arroyo is a politician who served as the 14th President of the Philippines from 2001 to 2010, making her the longest-serving president since Ferdinand Marcos. She was the 10th Vice President from 1998 to 2001, the first woman in that role, and served as a senator from 1992 to 1998.

She studied economics at Georgetown University and later became a professor at Ateneo de Manila University. She entered politics in 1987, holding various positions, including Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Arroyo became president after Joseph Estrada was ousted during the Second EDSA Revolution in 2001.

Her administration faced controversies, including the Hello Garci scandal, but she was re-elected and continued her political career post-presidency, representing Pampanga’s 2nd district and serving as Speaker of the House and Deputy Speaker. Arroyo has been an advocate for education and supported the teaching of Spanish in schools. After her presidency, she faced legal challenges but was acquitted by the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has formally filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) to seek reelection as the representative of Pampanga’s 2nd District in the upcoming 2025 elections. Arroyo is running under the Lakas-CMD party, where she serves as chairman emeritus. In her statement, she expressed her commitment to addressing the needs and priorities of her constituents in Pampanga as she seeks a second term in the House of Representatives.

“I have officially declared my candidacy for a second term as Congresswoman of the second district of Pampanga, where I am committed to addressing the needs and priorities of my constituency and the province of Pampanga,” she said.
