Michael Pacquiao Running for Councilor in GenSan

MICHAEL PACQUIAO – The 22-year-old son of a boxing legend is reportedly venturing into politics.

His name has been included in the councilor slate of the People’s Champ Movement (PCM), a political party connected to the Pacquiao family. He is expected to run for councilor in General Santos City under Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao, the wife of Manny’s younger brother, Alberto, who is seeking re-election in 2025.

Michael is the second of Manny’s children and the first to explore a political career, while his older brother Jimuel has pursued boxing like their father. Local media reports from Sarangani indicate that the filing of candidacies for PCM is set for October 5, 2024.

The Pacquiao family has a strong political background. Manny entered politics in 2010, serving as Sarangani Representative until 2016, while his wife Jinkee was Vice Governor from 2013 to 2016.

Alongside Michael’s potential political debut, Manny is also aiming to return to the Senate in the 2025 elections, running under the senatorial slate of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., his former rival in the 2022 Presidential election.

Meanwhile, several celebrities are vying for elective positions in the 2025 Philippine elections. Veteran actress Vilma Santos is running for Batangas Governor, while her son Luis Manzano is seeking the Vice Governor position, and her other son, Ryan Recto, is running for Representative of the 6th district of Batangas. Action star Philip Salvador is aiming for a Senate seat, while Lucy Torres Gomez is seeking re-election as Ormoc City Mayor, accompanied by her husband Richard Gomez, who is also running for re-election as the 4th District Representative of Leyte.

Deo “Diwata” Balbuena is running as a nominee for the Vendors Party-list, while Marco Gumabao is running for Camarines Sur 4th District Representative. Social media personality Rosmar Tan is vying for a Councilor position in Manila’s 1st District, and Ion Perez is running for Councilor in Concepcion, Tarlac.

Arjo Atayde is seeking re-election as Quezon City’s 1st District Representative. In the Senate race, both Lito Lapid and Tito Sotto are aiming for re-election as Senators.
