Principal in El Nido Accused of Daily Humiliation of Teacher Reassigned
TESSIE PILAR LAMPAGO – The controversial principal of El Nido National High School in Palawan has been reassigned following complaints from a teacher whom she allegedly humiliated daily.
The controversy began when Teacher I Mary Hazel Austria took to the media to complain against Principal Lampago, accusing her of repeatedly humiliating her in front of students and staff. Austria also revealed that her child, a student at the same school, experienced similar mistreatment from the principal.
Initially reluctant to bring the issue to light, Austria ultimately decided to speak out after enduring constant negative treatment. She admitted to fearing the principal but emphasized that the emotional toll pushed her to break her silence. Austria shared that she had kept the problem hidden, even from her husband, until recently. She suspects that other staff members are also too afraid to report the principal’s behavior.
Austria’s case gained public support, especially from former students who praised her as a kind and dedicated teacher. One former student, Mia, described Austria as one of her favorite teachers, recalling her compassion and patience with students both inside and outside the classroom. Mia expressed her support for Austria, hoping she would receive the justice she deserved.
As of the time of this update, the principal had not issued a response to the allegations, but the situation led to her reassignment and the appointment of a new principal.
Meanwhile, Principal Lampago has been reassigned to Bagong Bayan National High School in Palawan. She was replaced by Principal Romelyn L. Lavega, who was endorsed by District Supervisor Rowena J. Gaviana on September 25, 2024.
This decision made some netizens glad, with hopes that the principal could learn her lesson and practice humility.
