Emman Atienza Responds to Backlash Over “Guess the Bill” Challenge

Emman Atienza Addresses Criticism Over “Guess the Bill” Challenge

EMMAN ATIENZA – The daughter of GMA trivia master Kim Atienza responded to criticism after facing backlash due to her “Guess the Bill” challenge with her friends.

In the video, Emman and her friends were seen dining at a Japanese restaurant, where they attempted to guess the total cost of their meal. Emman estimated the bill to be ₱120,000, while Miss World 2024 Krishnah Gravidez guessed ₱130,000, which turned out to be the closest, so she paid the bill.

Netizens expressed concern, calling the display of wealth insensitive, especially in the Philippines, where many people face economic struggles.

In a TikTok video posted on September 24, Emman Atienza addressed the backlash, stating she should not be blamed for the wealth disparity in the country. “I, a singular teenage girl, am not responsible for the wealth disparity in the Philippines contrary to current popular belief,” she said. Emman criticized the selective outrage, suggesting that if people genuinely cared about poverty, they should take meaningful actions to help.

Emman Atienza encouraged critics to channel their frustrations into productive efforts, such as advocating for those in need or volunteering, which she mentioned she has done herself. “Volunteering is free. I’ve done it. Talk to your local government. Do something about it,” Emman urged. She also clarified that the “Guess the Bill” challenge was meant as a joke among friends, not as a serious display of wealth.

Meanwhile, the “Guess the Bill” challenge is a social media trend where participants, usually at a restaurant, guess the total amount of their meal bill before it is revealed. The challenge often involves friends or groups, and the person who comes closest to the actual bill wins. It is typically done for fun, but the challenge can sometimes attract criticism when large sums of money are involved, as it may be perceived as flaunting wealth, especially in areas with significant economic inequality.
