PNP Relieves 75 Cops Previously Assigned To VP Sara Duterte for her Safety
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President spoke on the relief of the 75 cops assigned for her security by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In the Philippines, there are members of the security workforce who are assigned to ensure the security of the political leaders in the country. The vice president is one of those with security from the Philippine National Police or PNP. However, recently, there are changes.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte confirmed that 75 cops who were assigned for her security were relieved. It is after an order from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief. Meanwhile, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Vice President assured that such move will not affect her work.
Vice Pres. Duterte has resigned from being the DepEd secretary a few weeks ago. She was replaced by Senator Sonny Angara in the helm of the Department of Education. She also left her post as the vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
According to the Vice President, her work to deliver services to the Filipino people most especially those who are living in far-flung areas and the underserved communities continue despite the reduction of her security. On the other side, she hopes that the move of the PNP will positively impact the fight against the proliferation of drugs and crimes in the country.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rommel Marbil revealed the reason behind the relief of the 75 cops assigned for the security of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on the report, some of these cops will be assigned to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) due to lack of personnel.
Meanwhile, Marbil stressed that the new directive was explained and coordinated with the Office of the Vice President (OVP). According to Presidential Security Commander Brigadier General Nelson Morales, the PSC “is ready to ensure the security and safety of the Vice President”.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was one of those who were absent at Marcos SONA 2024. Prior to the national event, the Vice President expressed her decision not to attend the State of the Nation Address of the President saying she appointed herself as the “designated survivor”.
The term “designated survivor” is used in the political field in U.S. to describe a practice wherein the person who can succeed the president is spared from a gathering where the president and the other leaders of the nation are.
