Grandma College Student Garners Admiration Online for Pursuing Her Studies Despite Old Age
A grandmother from Bulacan is earning praise from the online community for her dedication and eagerness to complete her college education.
At the age of 65, Lola Josephine Amante Villatema proves that it’s never too late to go back to school. Currently, in her second year of college, she’s pursuing a Bachelor of Elementary Education at Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel in Bulacan.
Lola Josephine is determined to fulfill the promise she made to her father to finish college. She had to stop schooling when she got married at the young age of 18.
Despite this, she promised her father that she would earn a college degree. Her family worked hard to enroll her in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) to finish high school and enter college.
College has been challenging for Villatema, but she is grateful for the support of her classmates in guiding her through activities. Due to her age, she plans to teach online or establish her own Day Care Center in the future.
Aside from her college studies, the senior citizen also participates in Zumba and pageants in their barangay.
According to their class mayor, Nathaniel Rapirap, Villatema is supported by the scholarship program of their school. He shared that Villatema actively participates in classroom discussions and enjoys giving advice.
Villatema’s classmates admire her determination to complete her education to fulfill her promise to her late father. Despite the challenges she faced in her youth, she’s now back on the path to achieving her dreams.
Her story serves as an inspiration that education knows no age limit, and it’s never too late to pursue your passions.
