Here’s How To Make Siomai — the Ingredients & Steps

Siomai is a bite-sized dish that could either have ground pork or ground beef as the main ingredient. It is one of the all-time favorites of many people. Siomai is one of the dishes that is very easy to make. The first step on how to make siomai is to prepare the ingredients. Based on a recipe of Knorr, here are the ingredients that you need to prepare to serve four (4) people:
- 2 cups ground pork
- 4 tbsp spring onions, chopped
- 1/2 pc onion, minced
- 1 pc egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup singkamas, finely minced
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- wonton wrappers, as needed
- 1/4 cup carrots, minced
- 3 tbsp sesame oil
- chopped spring onions and carrots for topping
- 1 tsp five spice powder (optional)
- 1 pc Knorr Pork or Beef Cube, mashed
The next part are the actual steps on how to make siomai. The preparation time may take 30 minutes while the cooking time may take 20 minutes.
Step 1
In a bowl, mix the ground pork or beef, spring onions, onion, singkamas, carrots, sesame oil, Knorr Pork or Beef Cubes, egg, and pepper. Make sure to mix them welll until they form a thick mixture.
Step 2
In each wonton wrapper, place a spoonful of the mixture in the center and push the filling down to create a pouch. make sure to leave the top part of your siomai open. Do this step based on how many siomai you want to make.
Step 3
Place a wax paper in a steamer. If you have no wax paper, you may use the bake paper or an aluminum foil as the alternative. Place the siomai in a steamer and wait for 20 to 30 minutes until it is cooked.
Step 4
Once the siomai is cooked, you may now remove it from the steamer. Allow it to cool down for a few minutes if you want to eat a steamed siomai. Otherwise, if you want a fried siomai, you may deep-fry it in a pre-heated oil until the wrapper turned brown and crisp.
Siomai is undeniably best served with a condiment that is usually soy sauce and kalamansi. Enjoy your snacks!
