Camilo Cascolan dies at 59
CAMILO CASCOLAN – The former Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Undersecretary of the Department of Health (DOH), passed away on November 24, Friday, at the age of 59.
The announcement of his passing was made by his son, Jiro Cascolan, in a Facebook post on the same night. Jiro Cascolan shared the sad news, stating, “It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that I, on behalf of our family, announce the passing of my beloved father, Ret. Gen. Camilo Pancratius Pascua Cascolan, former Chief of the Philippine National Police and Undersecretary of the Department of Health. He peacefully left this world this afternoon, November 24, 2023, at 5:28 p.m., surrounded by his loving family.”
While the family did not provide specific details about his passing, they mentioned that information regarding services would be provided later. Jiro expressed, “He will forever remain in our hearts as a shining example of courage, dedication, and love. May his soul rest in eternal peace. More details on the visitation service to honor and celebrate his life will follow.”
Cascolan was appointed as the 22nd chief of the PNP by former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2020. Later, in 2022, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. appointed him as the undersecretary of the DOH.
Aside from being PNP chief and DOH undersecretary, he held various key positions throughout his career, including Provincial Director of Compostela Valley, Regional Deputy Chief in different regions, and eventually Deputy Chief for Operations and Deputy Chief for Administration before becoming the Chief of the PNP.
The PNP also conveyed their condolences, stating, “As we bid farewell to this distinguished leader, we must not only mourn his passing but also celebrate the legacy he leaves behind. Let us honor PGen Cascolan by continuing to uphold the values he championed, by striving for excellence in our service to the nation, and by fostering the camaraderie and welfare that makes the PNP a strong and cohesive force,” on Friday.
