Binalbagan Catholic College teacher found dead with multiple stab wounds
TONY LAZAGA – A teacher at Binalbagan Catholic College was found dead near his boarding house in Brgy. San Pedro, Binalbagan, around 3 AM today, August 16, 2023.
The lifeless body of the teacher was discovered along Dumas St. with multiple wounds on his hands, back, and shoulders. According to PCapt. Glen C Portunes, deputy chief of Binalbagan Municipal Police Station, a tricycle driver alerted them after passing by the teacher, who was bleeding by the roadside.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) stated that the teacher had come from Bacolod, where he attended a friend’s birthday celebration, and was on his way back to his boarding house when he was attacked by an unidentified suspect. The teacher was stabbed multiple times.
Robbery is considered the possible motive behind the crime. The teacher’s cell phone was missing, while his wallet and laptop were apparently not taken. A knife was also recovered at the crime scene.
The victim was rushed to an infirmary clinic but was declared dead on arrival. Just hours before his demise, the teacher had shared a photo of himself on social media, which was posted by the student publication of BCC, “The Patrician.” His family and the BCC community are calling for justice for the tragedy that befell the educator.
The 51-year-old teacher was a resident of Barangay 35, Bacolod City. He was recently appointed as the new adviser of the Supreme Student Government (SSG) of Binalbagan Catholic College. Lazaga was also an instructor at the University of Negros Occidental Recoletos.
As of press time, the authorities have yet to give an update regarding the case of teacher Lazaga, especially with regard to the identity of the suspect/s.
