Trillanes to Run for Mayor in 2025

Trillanes for Caloocan mayor?

TRILLANES FOR MAYOR? – Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is reportedly considering a bid for the mayoral position in Caloocan in the 2025 elections.

Antonio Fuentes Trillanes IV, a retired Philippine naval officer, served as a senator in the Philippines from 2007 to 2019. After his senatorial term, he transitioned into a full-time lecturer, teaching public policy at the UP National College of Public Administration and Governance at the University of the Philippines Diliman and at Ateneo de Manila University.

Trillanes gained prominence for his involvement in the 2003 Oakwood mutiny and the 2007 Manila Peninsula siege, both aimed at protesting against the Arroyo administration. He has also been a vocal critic of the Duterte administration.

In the 2016 elections, Trillanes ran for vice president but lost to former Vice President Leni Robredo. He also vied for a senatorial seat in the 2022 elections but did not secure a spot.

Reportedly, the former senator has intentions to run for the mayoral position in Caloocan in the 2025 elections. According to a source from Politiko, Trillanes has already commenced touring various barangays (neighborhoods) in Caloocan to garner support from the residents.

Trillanes emphasized that the city is lagging behind other local government units in Metro Manila in terms of development. He also intends to address the issues of informal settlers and the worsening poverty situation under the administration of the Malapitan family.

Allegedly, Trillanes will establish an alliance with former Caloocan Representative Egay Erice, who reportedly aims to make a return to Congress. The Malapitan family has held leadership in the city for over a decade, with the current mayor being Dale “Along” Malapitan.
