Fred and August Duesenburg introduced an automobile known as the “Duesies” throughout the 1920s and 1930s, which increased the name “Doozy’s” popularity. By that time, the noun had been established and was being utilized.
The 1836 edition of “The Clockmaker,” which compared a beautiful doll to a real daisy, appears to be where the phrase first appeared. Eleonora Duse, an Italian-born actor, portrayed a perfect person in 1893; this character’s name may have changed to “Doozy” around the start of the 1900s.
