The Olympic gold medalist said that she thought it was over after the 2022 Tokyo Olympics, but she’s still getting recognized for her sport and for being recognized as a female athlete in weightlifting.
“At ipagpapatuloy pa rin natin ang laban para sa Pilipinas sa 2024 Paris Olympics,” Hidilyn said.
During her acceptance speech at the Philippine SportsWriters Association annual awards night, she looked back on all the challenges in her life and how she overcame them to reach her current status as a world-class athlete.
She shared that she’s very thankful because all the sacrifices and challenges of weightlifting training, her studies, being a military athlete, and being a wife to her husband Julius Naranjo paid off.
Also, Hidilyn said that she wanted to prove her detractors wrong in saying that she’s already past her prime when it comes to winning another gold medal for her sport.
The Olympic gold medalist is currently enrolled at the College of St. Benilde in Manila wherein she’s taking up a degree in Business Administration majoring in Business Management.
