Alfred Vargas: “It’s my first time to experience a hybrid class”
ALFRED VARGAS – The actor-politician recently shared his experience on the first day of class for his doctoral degree at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman.
The actor-politician has already a Master’s degree in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of the Philippines (UP) National College of Public Administration and Governance.
Alfred posted a series of photos on Instagram and also shared his experience in a “hybrid” learning system. He also explained why he decided to pursue a doctoral degree at UP Diliman through the ladderized program of the UP School of Urban and Regional Planning (SURP).
Sharing his experience on the first day of class, the actor said that it’s his first time experiencing a hybrid class.
“As a policymaker, I’ve met the best & brightest minds of the country & it’s always an honor to hear their insights firsthand,” he said. “There’s always so much to learn. So much to understand. And so much to do for our country.“
The actor now serves as one of the councilors of the fifth district of Quezon City after serving as congressman of the same district for 3 terms.

According to him, he chose urban planning so he can deepen his understanding of problems, design, and sustainable solutions for the district, city, and country. He added that this knowledge will be the key to laying down effective programs and policies.
“The semesters to come excite me!” he said. “I know this is a very challenging undertaking but learning will always be worth it!”
Aside from being an actor, politician, and student, his proudest achievement is being a father to his three children.
