ZONE OUT MEANING – Find out what zone out really means. Example sentences of this idiomatic expression can also be found here.

The phrase was coined in the second half of the twentieth century. It was first used as a slang term for someone who was high on drugs or inebriated.

Later, it was also used to describe someone who mistakenly ceases to pay attention to something or someone. Furthermore, it’s possible that the 1970s expression “lost in the ozone” inspired terms like “ozoned,” “zoned,” and “zoned out.”
